Easy, beautiful, and vigorous, the alien sun beetle is the perfect starter beetle. Adults are relatively long-lived, hardy, and day-active. Larvae are easily pleased and will eat the typical beetle larvae substrates but can be fed handfuls of dog food when the colony reaches good size. Worth mentioning is all life stages can easily be reared together, as the mature larvae create a cocoon of frass and are not bothered by their siblings crawling through the substrate around them. Unlike the similar-to-care-for Gymnetis thula, this species does noticeably appreciate supplemental heat.
